Joey Petersen, LPC, is a compassionate and dedicated therapist excited to support individuals ages 16+ on their journey toward healing and personal growth. Joey offers a safe, non-judgmental space for clients to explore their emotions and challenges. Additionally, he values the power of humor in therapy, using it as a valuable tool to create a warm and supportive atmosphere. He also utilizes an empowering, upbeat, and personable approach to therapy that is tailored to each client’s specific needs. Joey has experience working with anxiety, depression, OCD, LGBTQ+ issues, life transitions, and self-esteem issues. Joey is particularly passionate about working with the LGBTQ+ and kink/BDSM communities, understanding the unique and diverse experiences they navigate. He strives to create a welcoming environment where clients from these communities can feel heard, seen, and accepted without judgment. Joey also has experience working in a multitude of settings such as inpatient mental health, crisis work in the emergency room, and transitional housing programs to help individuals experiencing homelessness.
In his practice, Joey draws from a range of therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Reality Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Therapy. Joey is also trained in using Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) in helping treat diagnoses such as OCD, social anxiety, or other phobias. These evidenced-based practices will be adapted for each client to help them gain insights, take back control of their lives, develop coping strategies, and achieve their therapeutic goals.
